Simple Thriller Delivers Real Thrills!

‘Hush’ is a surprising little gem of a thriller. It maximizes the simple formula of the ‘home invasion’ sub-genre to full potential. Our heroine is at a disadvantage in being a deaf mute. She’s instantly relatable and worth investing in almost from the start, because she’s shown to be so self-reliant and intelligent. Her attacker is equally cunning and takes all the necessary measures to keep her confined. After a very brief setup, the rest of the film is a fast paced battle for dominance between the opposing pair. A few surprises are thrown in that shake up expectations. The plotting is so tight that it leaves no room for logical errors, but it’s only noticeable later because I was too busy anticipating every new development with involuntary reaction. When a film can manage audible responses from me in tense situations, I know it’s doing a superb job. A quick, smart, tense, and tight, eighty minute thriller that satisfies in delivering exactly what it sets out to do.
