Watch 'The Armstrong Lie' Instead

A biographical piece centered around the conspiracy behind the real-life scandal involving famous athlete Lance Armstrong. The film presents a detailed succession of the events from a few different viewpoints - but mostly that of Armstrong. The result isn’t much different than that of a surface value television docudrama. It felt as if the intent was to show a more accurate portrayal of the facts rather than focus on character or depth. Some vague attempts are made to capture the multiple perceptions on the morality of performance enhancement. But outside of a few thoughtful moments, there’s no real dramatic edge. It’s a shame given all the talent involved. Ben Foster brings his best in an immersive performance that, without much drama, is left looking like an impressively detailed impersonation. Honestly, I’d recommend the recent documentary, ‘The Armstrong Lie’. It’s more fascinating and in-depth.
