INTENSE, Smart Thriller

'Green Room' is probably the most intense thriller I will see this year. This grim opus had me squirming in my seat and giving audible reactions to it's realistic violence. The movie holds back nothing in a relentless manner. It's not just gruesome for the sake of it. The gory moments are used to effectively insert a shock to the audience, being spaced out along the perfectly paced plot. We're not supposed to feel good about anyone dying on screen, no matter their character's stance. The whole point is to show the unnecessary nature of murder and it's messy entanglement with vengeance. It's more of an exploration of what constitutes right or wrong in an act of killing. The film doesn't go so deep into the subject, but it's a prominent theme throughout that is resolved in an understatement of moralistic ambiguity in the finale. This entire situation was mishandled poorly by the characters and everyone pays for it. These may be dark areas of thought, but the film is still enjoyable in it's sheer intense thrills. I was invested in every second of the character's survival, no matter the insurmountable odds. I had to take a breather after watching and shake off the experience. 'Green Room' is a thriller that will keep anyone on edge with a tight grip and relish of primal fears.
