Horror film that draws a clever parallel between doing whatever possible to achieve fame in feature films, and ACTUALLY doing whatever possible by obeying the means of an occult. Our female protagonist's introverted self-deprecating nature makes her sympathetic, while her drive and hidden talents also make her worth backing. The supporting cast of her "friends" are also a great catapult for her career pursuit. Once she's been accepted for a role in an independent feature, things take a sinister turn. What follows is a weird, uncomfortable downward spiral that combines conspiring worshippers of evil with bloody murder and gross body transformation. I enjoyed these horror elements in the way I usually do. However, their placement felt only there for necessity of horror tropes. It makes sense in the context of the movie, but the final act kind of underwhelms with it's reliance on bloody killings just for the sake of things. The final scene really brought the film's purpose back to life, so it wasn't all for waste. Much smarter than your average horror fare, but strictly only for those who enjoy the unique independent side of the genre.
