Writer/Director Jared Hess has fallen far from his quirky indie roots since his breakout hit 'Napoleon Dynamite'. His distinct offbeat presence resonates a certain charm with me. However, this latest offering lacks all of that charm. I like the idea of the story, and the collection of great comedic actors, but the humor is severely lacking. We follow a basic plot of the protagonist's growing lie as he furthers his career with a man who turns into a criminal. Rockwell and Clement make a believable pairing. They are the only ones to garner a few chuckles. The rest of the cast doesn't do much at all. I was never bored, but I wasn't as entertained as I could've been given the unique collection of talent.
