Gosling/Crowe Make a Great Pair!

Writer/Director, Shane Black, returns to his mastered wheelhouse of 'buddy cop' formula flicks... with a vengeance! 'The Nice Guys' is exactly the type of movie that only Black can deliver - and he delivers in spades here. His entire focus is on character. The two 'nice guys' in question are the unbelievably entertaining pair of Gosling and Crowe. These two carry the film with an easy flow of charm, wit, and personality to spare. Their comroadarie is impeccable. It's a joy to watch the duo solve this twisting mystery filled with noir-ish undertones. The case at hand gives the plot momentum, and it's never too farfetched, but our investment is always centered in our two main investigators. Watching them follow the clues and get caught in harry situations is total fun. Our 'guys' are competent at their job, but their personal vices and behavioral choices are what block their path - leading into some well conceived comedic mishaps. Dialogue between them is continuously filled with memorable one-liners delivered in precision. The comedy fires at all times. I was laughing out-loud at almost every joke. I love the characters, I love the humor, I love the mystery/crime elements, and I love the perfect use of the 1970's era setting. 'The Nice Guys' works on familiarity by injecting a good does of originality into a proven formula. It's the best example of the 'crime comedy' sub-genre. I had a blast!
