Trying Too Hard

'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates' has a decent comedy premise; a premise that is squandered on a spastic plot and undermined character development. Much of the events are a hodgepodge of routine cliches combined with severely over-the-top performances. The main four players are stretching their natural abilities in the wrong direction. Feels as if the "comedy" in this script was absent and everyone involved on set was meant to fill in the gaps with much improvisation. It becomes an apparent fact after seeing the added blooper reel in the credits. Most of the performers are just trying way too hard. Many of the situations are needlessly elongated with extra unfunny lines. Rarely did I get a genuine good laugh. I enjoyed the more dialed back presence of the supporting cast. I got a few giggles here and there, but this was ultimately a wash out.
