A New Meaning for "Princess"
Camper - wrote on 06/30/13
The word "princess" usually brings to mind things like the color pink and four year old girls in frilly dresses and Disney, but this movie completely transforms the meaning of the word. "All girls are princesses" is a recurring line throughout the movie, but it doesn't remind me of all those negative images that are surrounded by most story book princesses. When Sarah says "I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young. They're still princesses. All of us." I get goosebumps, and I can only think of a princess as someone graceful and kind and important, someone who addresses meaningful subjects and tries to help the world.
A Little Princess is a very beautiful movie.
