Stephen King's It

I was surprised at just how terrible this movie really is. I'd only ever seen clips of it on TV during October but I finally decided to watch it in its entirety. And man, I did not expect to laugh that much. At least it was hilariously bad as opposed to just bad. The writing was clunky. The acting was awkward and unrealistic at best. Other times, it was just cringe-worthy. Some scenes were so random and unnecessary that all I could do was shake my head in amazement that they were actually in the film. I watched a bit of the audio commentary afterwards and god, the director was talking like he'd made some kind of horror masterpiece. And it's not. It's really not. I can see why it's become a staple Halloween flick though, the campiness of it all sort of has its own kind of charm. And to be fair, there were a few genuinely creepy scenes and images scattered throughout here and there. I liked all the stupid blood bits and the talking head in the freezer and Tim Curry's performance was wonderfully over the top, but even he couldn't save this one.
