I'm done with these Found footage films, until I saw this one and I can happily say that this movie is at times a lot different from the other found footage films, but it does lack on so many things that I'm going to bring up later during the review.
The story to Willow Creek is about a number of hoaxes, folklore and half-truths, Jim is determined to prove the legend is real. Along for the ride is Kelly, his girlfriend who only wants to keep him happy. But deep in the forest, miles away from humanity, once the camera starts rolling, the horrifying truth will emerge.
Willow Creek first got my interested when I strolling around the internet looking for a good scary movie, until I came across this movie and got a little bit interested in it by it's story and it's reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, I mean damn it's got 8.8% on RT, I had to see it, but I think my hype for the film let it down, until I though about it and thought about it more and I actually compared this to other Chile found footage movies and then I realized that this is a lot different from them and how hash the first time around.
I found the beginning of the movie to be really slow and really boring, with are character's that I do not care about going around to do different interviews on the sighting of Bigfoot, then the movie took a different turn for the best and saved the film for me. Bobcat Goldthwait (The Director of the film) did a okay job with this, he didn't do "Amazing", or "Groundbreaking", no he did okay with this movie, but I would like him to put in more frightening and scary parts in this movie, and I don't mean jump scars, I mean the classic feeling of being frightening in a horror flick.
The movie didn't show much of Bigfoot which surprised me because I thought they will show him towards the end, but nope, they kept the big guy in the darkness all through out the film, which made it more frighting for me, because you don't see were this thing is going to jump out and I know they did that before with other found footage film but this one felt different, because this movie had the right tone and the better timing from other found footage films.
Overall Willow Creek will not be everybody cup of tea, but if your a movie junker like me and seen other found footage films and stick of to death with them, then this movie may or may not give you what you want in a found footage movie, and that's effort.
