Ticket to Paradise - Review

When you thought romcom movies were dead and buried, they suddenly came out of the grave.
Ticket to Paradise is a predictable and corny movie that is saved by charm and enjoyment.
One of the most memorable cinema experiences I've had in a while. Not because of the movie itself but because five minutes into the film, some kids activated the fire alarm (little shits), and we had to leave the screen through the fire exit and go outside. Of course, it was a false alarm, and we managed to see the rest of the movie.
If you look up the plot summary or watch the trailer, you know what's going to happen next, and you won't be surprised.
The return of rom-com movies isn't a bad thing in my eyes. They are harmless and inoffensive fluff that will appeal to someone's fantasy; falling in love with an attractive man or woman and finding freedom after being stuck in a crappy job.
Critics and audiences have scoffed at the genre to the point it disappeared. The genre has been criticised in other movies, TV shows, critical essays, and video essays that you can find on YouTube. But now, I feel audiences want more escapism and accept it as its genre.
George Clooney and Julie Roberts are old-school superstars who made the movie watchable. In the film, they play a divorced couple, and since Clooney and Roberts are friends in real life, you don't fully believe they hate each other. They like friends pretending to loathe each other. Although, I must say there is one scene where Clooney delivers a monologue to another character explaining why the marriage didn't work, and it's all done in one take, with the shot focusing on him. I was surprised by how good the scene was.
Overall rating: It's a movie that won't surprise you but will keep you entertained.
