Beauty and the Beast (2017)

1991 slays this beast

This lavish live action production from Disney is of course a loving homage to it's animated Oscar winning predecessor. However, despite it' s big budget, big stars, and big expectations this one falls flat. Most notably in the singing. Sure Emma Watson is absolutely gorgeous as Belle, but her obvious auto tune singing had no feeling though it was .. clean. The sets were stunning and the story true to the original 1991 hit with a few modifications that helped to clean up some of the plot holes. But unfortunately the magic sputtered. Ewan MgGregor, Luke Evans and Dan Stevens (Lumiere, Gaston, and The Beast) were for themselves well cast and helped draw us into the world and out of our own. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Josh Gad, and Ian Mckellen both of whom were over acted caricatures instead of supporting characters as LeFou and Cogsworth.**spoilers** In the end I felt no justice in the death of our villain, nor did I get a warm rush of gladness when the couple break the enchantment to live happily ever after. For all my complaining, it is still a lovely bit of a movie, but the 1991 version is the superior. Also don't bother with the 3D, it added nothing.
