The Object of My Affection

A cute movie that doesn't end the way you want it

"The Object of My Affection", is one of the cutest movies I've seen in some time.

"Nina" (Jennifer Aniston) inadvertantly tells her best friend "George" (Paul Rudd), who is gay, that his boyfriend (Tim Daly) is dumping him. "George" leaves the guy and shacks up with "Nina", who is in her own rocky relationship.

Before "Nina" wakes up and dumps her guy (John Pankow), "Nina" finds out she's pregnant and she decides that she wants "George" to help raise the child.

Aniston and Rudd carry this movie nicely, and both equally do a captivating performance that keeps you watching. The play their characters so well that you almost immediately want them to end up together, even though you know it's impossible.

A little problem with this movie is that the supporting cast is barely developed. They are, however, nicely woven into the story but you may not connect with any of them. Personally, I would have liked to have seen Alan Alda on screen a lot more than he turned out.

There is no action or adventure in this movie, guys. This is strictly a Chick Flick. However, men may like the comedic parts just as much as the female audience.

With the movie set in New York City, you'd expect some of the best known locations peppered throughout the film. This is simply not so. But there are lots of shots of the pre-9/11 NYC skyline that may distract you for a brief moment when the Towers come on camera. Of what we see of the "Big Apple", it it obviously the nicer neighborhoods that get the spotlight.

One thing that the script succeeds in is getting the audience attached to "Nina" and "George" and u certainly feel for them throughout their relationship during the film. You will get to the point where you truly want the two together. You also may not like how they end up, but you will be happy that they are finally happy.

The director also did a good job bringing the script to life from his part of the film. He picked great camera angles, and worked with a wonderful cast that he was able to put together in a pleasant package.

It is my opinion that this would be a good rental if your first choice isn't available.
