Very powerful performances by Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin who portray cousins who each is the antithesis of the other. With an incredibly thrilling storytelling pattern, John Patrick Shanley constructs a well-written masterpiece of what really drives people bananas...and when it happens. The most amazing thing about this film is the way that the scares come - not BAM in your face JUMP heart is racing, but in a much more subtle way, rather like an ambiance of fear that resonates with exhausting ferocity.
