The Joke is on Marxist leftists everywhere!

A fearlessly scathing critique of Soviet totalitarianism and the ideology that fuels it as seen through the eyes of an unsuspecting member of the bureaucracy who is ousted and imprisoned for "rehabilitation purposes" for an innocuous attempt at humor with a colleague. Years later, he makes a ruthless attempt at revenge against those that wronged him only for it to blow up in his face in a most amusing fashion. Sometimes comical, sometimes tragic, and the writing displays a sharp wit in exposing the contradictory and often hypocritical nature of Communist life during the 50s and 60s. In an ironic sense in of itself, this movie would not have probably been made had life in the Soviet bloc actually experience a period of political liberalization at the time it was released. Isn't life annoying?
