Jennifer Lawrence better watch herself...

I'm not entirely sure what version of 'Insurgent' was seen by film critics but in all honestly, I think this was better than the first one which I also enjoyed. But this one is more self-assured and cuts to the chase. Audiences were introduced to this world so now it focuses on the characters and more importantly for viewers like me, the action. One thing you could fault 'Divergent' for was a lack of action to justify its 140 minute length but here 'Insurgent' tells an exciting girls own adventure tale in a shorter amount of time. There's even time for some political intrigue and philosophical rumination to boot. While it still dwells on the hackneyed romance, I honestly don't mind since Shailene Woodley and Theo James have such good chemistry together. Speaking of her, although this movie was entertaining thanks to being more confident in itselt and having a good cast but in all seriousness, the proverbial thread holding it all together is Shailene Woodley. It's very impressive to watch how much she's grown as not only an established actress but also as an action heroine.
