One of the most visually stunning and spirited examples from the age of silent cinema, Douglas Fairbanks plays the arab swashbuckler with gusto and bravado. Not surprisingly most of the story is told through visual imagery and it works splendidly. The sets are incredible, the action is exciting, and the tone is appropriately fanciful. It is indeed an exercise in Orientalist cliches and stereotypes about the Middle East but it's hard to deny how enjoyable it is to watch.
