An interesting if overly long bit of satire and sincerity woven together as James L. Brooks balances out the personal lives of three TV journalists and their professional interactions. William Hurt is the good looking rookie, Albert Brooks is the seasoned pro who's awkward with the ladies, and Holly Hunter is the tough-as-nails gal who cries on a daily basis. All three and their colleagues have shades of gray to their characters so no one is wholly good or completely bad. There's some good moments and an underlying bitterness towards the news industry that gives the comedy an edgier touch. I liked watching it but did feel like it was longer than it should have been.
