Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara playing lesbians is enough to get anyone's mind in the gutter. However, Todd Haynes directs his adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt" with class but stylistically it does become cold and stale at times. The two female leads work exceptionally well together however. Rooney is appropriately doe eyed as the love struck sales clerk beguiled by a more mature elegant woman as skillfully played by Blanchett. Their chemistry is dynamite. If only the rest of the supporting cast was better developed and not relegated to the cliched roles you'd expect in a more sensationalist treatment.
