Bette Davis and Paul Henreid carry this drama about a woman recuperating from a nervous breakdown brought about by her domineering crone of a mother. Solid support by Claude Rains and Gladys Cooper is much appreciated. This could have easily been far more melodramatic and cliche but instead it feels mature and thoughtful.
