This movie claims to be inspired by Biblical scripture and rooted in historical fact. As the man said in that classic western film, "when the legend becomes fact, print the legend". I guess the New Testament avoided discussing Jesus Christ and his early childhood because it was such a boring story to tell (Forgive me Father for I have sinned). It looks expensive at least I guess and the acting isn't actually terrible. There are very few recognizable cast members aside from Sean Bean in a thankless role as an evil Roman soldier tasked with killing the title character. Christian McKay plays Jesus' firebrand uncle and he isn't bad either. The Young Messiah is clearly a religious drama made with the best intentions and I won't knock it for that. It helps that it's not a hateful film or fundamentalist propaganda; it doesn't preach to the choir in short. Unfortunately it fails to find a point to the movie being made at all.
