Indiana Jones in his teacher suit but fun!

Finally! These stupid Robert Langdon movies are fun to watch! Ron Howard, what took you so long? The Da Vinci Code was a pretentious slog, Angels & Demons was better but made blowing up the Vatican boring, and now with Inferno, these movies finally seem to find their groove.
Unfortunately given the negative reaction to this one, it might be the last. But at least it goes out with a bang. Ok not really, the threat this time is a man-made virus. And to make it more interesting, Professor Langdon (Tom Hanks) has amnesia and must retrace his steps to find the clues using Dante's Inferno as a map, if you will.
The movie runs at a lean two hours and makes the most of it. There's the usual foot chases, car crashes, and scenic vistas but it's fun for once. Dumb popcorn fun that happens to feature Renaissance art, literature, and history. There's even a silly predictable plot twist in the tradition of potboiler novels like Dan Brown's work. The cast is put to good use for once as well. Felicity Jones is the glamorous femme fatale, Ben Foster is the evil genius, and Irrfan Khan is a wily international man of mystery.
If you have to bother with any of the Dan Brown movies, definitely watch 'Inferno'.
