A darkly humorous reworking of the 'Coming to America' trope, George Sanders plays a Czech refugee who betrays his loved ones and comes to the United States to live the high life. His love interest is a shady pickpocket (De Carlo) and he surrounds himself with crooks and sycophants. There's a moralistic spin on the whole manner (it IS the 50s) and it's well acted. Great music by Max Steiner too for that matter.
