Russell Mulcahy's unusual monster movie features some outstanding cimenatography that makes it a good looking horror movie the whole time. The outback setting is at once haunting and otherwordly yet strangely beautiful to look at.
However, the plot doesn't make sense half the time. Gregory Harrison's passive protagonist character makes quite a few stupid mistakes. Bill Kerr fulfills the role of the crusty old hunter same as Robert Shaw in JAWS. He does fine.
The gore and scares are effective thanks to Mulcahy's direction and the eerie visuals.
