A by the numbers biographical drama that depicts the relationship between author A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh) and his son, the real life Christopher Robin. Or as they call him in the film, Billy. They go through the expected motions of his trials, moments of inspiration, and melodrama.
Domhnall Gleeson and the actor (Will Tilston) are both good. You believe they're father and son. Margot Robbie is allowed to play a dramatic role for once, even if it's a thoroughly and relentlessly unlikable character. Kelly MacDonald is the standout though, as a kind nanny.
The cinematography and direction is not terrible but it's not quite memorable. It does cheat at the beginning to immediately tug at your heart strings. The movie is rather melancholy for something promoted as a 'feel good' tearjerker.
