John Wayne got a lot of flack for making a cheerfully jingoistic war film at the height of the Vietnam War. Perhaps he was tone-deaf to the times but the movie is hardly worth the hate it incites in some corners. It's already just bad on its own merits. The direction is flat, the characters are forgettable, and the setting is laughably unconvincing. But if there's something I can say kindly about it, it IS John Wayne. He's in his element here. Right make that two things, George Takei is in this. He's always good.
