BEASTMASTER is a silly pulp fantasy flick that as Conan cash-ins go, is not half bad. Though made on a smaller budget, the film does have a uniquely grungy primordial style all its own. The sets and monster props are goofy looking but they fit the Conan inspired tone of the film.
Marc Singer is an impressive physical specimen and admittedly wooden sometimes. But he's supported by Rip Torn as the wicked sorcerer and John Amos as his trusty sidekick. Tanya Roberts looks great naked but does poorly acting-wise.
Honestly what is most impressive is the audiences' immediate liking of Singer's animal sidekicks whom today would definitely be CGI renditions.
