Aims to be as romantic and steamy as 'Samson & Delilah' but 'David and Bathsheba' is too pretentious for the love story to have any impact. It seems deeply acted but still rings emotionally hollow. Susan Hayward is lovely as always and Gregory Peck cuts a heroic figure in biblical garb. Oddly enough it's Jayne Meadows (who plays David's neglected wife) that knows what melodramatic pose to strike next and leaves an impression with her embittered histrionics.
