Adapted from Anne Rice's long running novel series, director Neil Jordan lets the blood and gore run rampant as much as the lusty sensuality and lush scenery.
Tom Cruise is off as ageless vampire Lestat but he's not slouching. Brad Pitt fares a tad better as the newly minted vampire Louis who is torn over the tremendous moral implications with killing people to feed on their blood. The standout is a young Kirsten Dunst as the wily and bratty vampire child Claudia.
Its ott style is not always as effective as it aims for this timeless epic tone. But it's not holding anything back for an R rated Gothic horror film and that's always worth seeing.
