Entertaining western of a cowboy wrongly accused of cowardice who then capitalizes on his ill-gotten infamy to turn the tables on the villains in order to save the day. Glenn Ford convincingly plays the hero who feigns moral ambiguity to keep his enemies guessing. Julie Adams is lovely as his paramour. Budd Boetticher's intelligent treatment of personal justice versus public opinion shows why he deserved more than being remembered as the poor man's John Ford when it come to westerns.
