Escape to Athena feels too much like a poor man's version of the classic war epic 'THE GUNS OF NAVARONE". \
Set on a Greek island, the Nazis are invading, there's resistance intrigue, double crosses, escapes, chases. Only this time they added the prospect of buried ancient treasure and Stefanie Powers playing a stripper. Not bad additions.
But the movie's tone is wildly inconsistent. It's oddly trying hard for broad laughs when it ought to be a more serious war adventure with some urgency.
The cast makes it watchable enough. But you know it could had been better.The action really doesn't start up until the second half. But it's not bad. There's a great motorcycle chase. And Stephanie Powers looks great in a wetsuit.
