Offbeat dramatization of the Tennessee Williams play about a defrocked priest, a pretty hotelier, a single artist, a mischievous girl , and a closeted governess all congregated at a dilapidated Mexican resort. The tone shifts from drama to comedy to tragedy in a heartbeat. Richard Burton and Ava Gardner are pretty good. Sue Lyon plays a rehash of her Lolita role well. Grayson Hall is appropriately stuck-up and oblivious as the judgemental leader of a tour group unaware of her own lesbianism. Huston keeps Richard Burton's character interesting enough without becoming too pathetic.
