Bloated but brawny epic about the Battle of the Alamo.
Director and producer John Wayne stars as famed frontiersman Davy Crockett who led the doomed defense.
The cast is good, especially Richard Widmark and Laurence Harvey. Battle scenes are well staged and the sheer scope of the film is impressive.
It probably grapples more ideas than it has time to ponder. But John Wayne keeps the movie well paced despite its great length.
