Merchant-Ivory drama about a butler facing a moral quandary after the arrival of a new housekeeper. Exciting? Riveting? No, it's pretty boring. Well acted sure, it's Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins. They're fine and it's nice to see Christopher Reeve. But it's awkward seeing him onscreen just a year before his tragic accident.
