Eastwood plays a tough-as-nails gravelly voiced gunnery sergeant determined to train a lazy group of Marines into real soldiers. Eastwood's character, whether how much is in the script or just Eastwood himself, is such a macho badass it's ridiculous but damn he's so cool in this. The love story takes up a lot of time and it's not as interesting as the A-plot with the Marines. Even if you do want him and Marsha Mason together. Mario Van Peebles is really funny in this.
