Masters of the Universe (1987)

Cheap wannabe Star Wars meets Conan

Cheesy mixture of science fiction and high fantasy as if dreamed up by a drunken George Lucas. In prequel mode.
Dolph Lundgren certainly looks the part as He-Man but his acting is not that good;rumor is he had to learn English phonetically during filming. It shows. It's weird that Courteney Cox is in this but I guess she's okay. Frank Langella is a lot of fun as Skeletor but he's not in the movie that much.
The action scenes when it's just jumping and swordplay isn't terrible but not especially memorable. However, towards the end it gets into Flash Gordon levels of stupidity. The hoverboard chase has to be seen to be believed in its absurdity. The sets and costumes look expensive but at the same time, it's so obvious that Golan-Globus were hoping this would be a new Star Wars type franchise. Obviously that didn't happen.
