Handsomely mounted adaptation of the Dickens classic with fine performances. It packs a lot of plot and characters but it has its fair share of effective moments. Quite a few castmembers become standouts. Maureen O'Sullivan is both charming and flighty as David's first wife Dora. W.C. Fields is quite good as MiCawber while Basil Rathbone makes a hissable foe as Murdstone.
