For a walk on the wild side, it's fairly mild. Laurence Harvey plays a Depression-era farmer in search of his lost love (Capucine) and crosses paths with a wily hooker (Fonda); a cunning brothel madam (Stanwyck); and a kind restaurateur (Baxter). There is always the intimation of something more risque and sexier but it's a fairly mundane melodrama with some noirish elements. In her second film role, Jane Fonda is a highlight.
