Shallow homage or ripoff of Alfred Hitchcock

This movie seems to have an affinity for Hitchcock styled thrillers. Except it's nowhere close to being as intelligently written as a Hitchcock movie or even an imitator such as Charade. The setup is very simple. A thief breaks into a wealthy couple's vacation house but finds the couple is home after all so he takes them hostage. Jason Segel is an odd choice for the burglar but it's mildly interesting. Jesse Plemons plays the husband to Lilly Collins and plays it like a jerk as he normally does. Collins' character changes her motivation on a dime. There is an unexpected death of a minor character (the only other person in the movie besides the main trio) which is actually unsettling. It's an effort to coast on the classic thrillers of old Hollywood, but it's pretty dumb.
