Will Smith is very good in this. For all the controversy over the Oscar slap, Will Smith actually does act his butt off. The rest of the movie is okay but it could had been trimmed by ten, twenty minutes. To its credit, it does not shy away from depicting Richard Williams' less noble moments as his daughters' chief driving force during their training. It's quite even-handed. Williams was tough on his now-famous daughters because he did love them dearly and wanted them to have a better future.
