There’s two movies in this western. One which takes place in the present day feels like a docudrama that suddenly turns into an action movie in the last fifteen minutes. That’s a bit silly. But the meat of the story is a gripping yarn told in flashback. Despite the Old West setting, this part of the movie felt like a film noir. Glenn Ford is very good as the ruthless prospector obsessed with gold.
