Watered down sequel to classic star vehicle

Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley in this much maligned sequel and I can see why. This movie really sucked. For one thing, it's not a buddy movie that much. Judge Reinhold is back but he's not in the movie much. The villains are very bland and the evil scheme concerning a counterfeiting ring is not that interesting. The setting is a theme park this time and that could potentially be really funny. But the sets and the cinematography look cheap.
Even though it's rated R, it doesn't feel like an adult action film but a toothless family movie. Then again, I feel like I've seen edgier family movies than this. It feels like the whole movie and Eddie Murphy's performance is on autopilot. And when a charismatic and hilarious actor like Eddie Murphy is on autopilot, that makes thing drag on and on.
