It pains me to say this but this was a really lousy movie. And I'm normally a sucker for anything related to Egypt, archaeology, or the hint of an action-packed treasure hunt. 'SPHINX' has the first two things but it is severely lacking in excitement or thrills. Veteran director Franklin J. Schaffner (Planet of the Apes; Papillon) is not inexperienced in that department and it's a shame the film is so boring. If there's one nice thing I can commend, it's the photography. The movie does look nice but that's it.
