This film noir has a lot of similarities to another Stanwyck movie 'DOUBLE INDEMNITY'. Here, she also plays a calculating femme fatale who lures an unsuspecting lawman into a deadly conspiracy. The main difference is in that movie, the mood was cynical and the characters inhabited a harsh world. This one tries to add a touch of sentimentalism near the final act. It feels a tad bit manufactured. Barbara Stanwyck fits her part like a glove but Wendell Corey is a dull substitute for Fred MacMurray. However, Richard Rober is a memorably slimy antagonist as Stanwyck's silent partner.
