Imagine “Romancing the Stone” but if it was terrible.
This movie sucked as a comedy and as an action flick. Until the last twenty minutes when things just started getting better. And then the movie ends…Lame!
It takes so much time to get started and the lead actor is not very good. He’s kind of like a dime store version of Harrison Ford. John Hurt is the best player in the movie as the main villain.
This movie was confusing in that it looks cheap and expensive at the same time. Like a number of lower budget movies did in the’80s. There’s a lot of explosions and expensive looking action in the last act. But then the first half is the cast running around the same set doubling as an African war zone.
Two other things that I give credit for. The lead actress (looks like Elaine from Seinfeld) is actually not terrible and there is a good suspenseful bit with a literal lion’s den.
