Epic scaled adaptation of a Cold War bestseller that no one remembers today. It tackles political drama and spiritual dogma against a 'what-if' scenario where China and the Soviets creep towards WW3. Anthony Quinn is not half-bad as a pious priest turned reluctant pope that must contend with scheming cardinals and a skeptical press. It's just the movie does not have any sense of momentum and it becomes tedious during its talky moments. Of which, there are several.
