Lavish and yet lurid period drama involving love triangles, gypsies, and murder. Stewart Granger is well cast as the roguish antihero while Valerie Hobson is excellent as his class-conscious lover. The setup has shades of “Wuthering Heights” but a bit more salacious. The cinematography and costumes are gorgeous. Michael Gough (Batman) has a fun bit as Hobson’s foppish husband.
