Excellent b&w cinematography and an appropriately gothic atmosphere does not make this funny or scary. Broderick Crawford is a unique choice for a role like this. He's not bad in the part. Though maybe someone else like Bob Hope could had been better. I kept forgetting that Bela Lugosi was in the movie.
