One may recall that Elektra is killed by Bullseye in the movie Daredevil, thus she is brought back to life and assumes a new persona as a contract killer.
Much is missed, skipped, or left out though. The comic geek in me wants to tell you how her trainer, Stick, is a badass that trains other badasses (in the comics he trains Daredevil, Black Cat, recovers Wolverine out of his feral state, and leads a ninja group called the Chaste). But you'd never know it. Other characters like Typhoid (part of the sinister assassin group the Hand who have fueded with the Chaste since feudal Japan) pop-up, which is believed to be based on Typhoid Mary, but one never knows and they're never developed or explained. Thus, all the comic references above.
What one is left with is a Jennifer Garner character that scowls in every scene and that's about it. Shallow and laughable overall.
