Trainspotting begs the viewer to choose life and a car, the normal hum-drum ways of game show viewing on a big television, rather than the life of a heroin addict. And after encountering the gang Boyle puts together in this movie one will not want to do drugs or encounter their particularly odd ways: shoplifting, a never ending evaluation of James Bond per facts and quotes, snipping unsuspecting pit-bulls, stealing a friends sex tape, watching trains with an outright hatred towards exercise, dead babies and halluciantions thereof, and always one final hit.
Sadly, these characters aren't unlikeable and the raw humor keeps the viewer glued. These are all addicts in some form or another and unlike poor attempts to recreate their reality (Requim for a Dream, Weirdsville for example) one believes their plight. Trainspotting is that odd mix of horror, drug induced realities, crime, and comedy that works and blends surprisingly well. Everyone should see this and Boyle's contribution to the Drug/Crime/Comedy film is no less important than his fine contributions to horror (28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later) or to Science Fiction (Sunshine).
